Design notes: The Ivory Room Bridal

We sat down with Nicole from The Ivory Room Bridal about inspiration, interiors and what's next for her dreamy showroom.
Nicole, please introduce yourself and your designer showroom, 'The Ivory Room'.

"I’m Nicole – the Founder and Creative Director of The Ivory Room. The Ivory Room was born out of a desire to bring a new approach to the bridal experience - one which delivers a couture experience that is attainable to every bride. Our dreamy and luxurious space offers 3 private bridal suites – all of which have been thoughtfully designed for our brides to begin their bridal journey of pampering. Each private bridal appointment is a tailored one-on-one appointment with champagne, macarons and a dedicated stylist that has truly changed the game in the Australian bridal boutique industry."

When did you start ‘The Ivory Room’ and what gave you the inspiration for the brand?

"The Ivory Room Bridal launched in 2020. Opening a bridal boutique had always been a dream of mine but it wasn’t until I got engaged that it started to take shape. I had dreamt of walking down the aisle in a showstopping and unique wedding dress but my experiences with the Australian boutiques left me with limited options and disheartened by the lack of a bridal experience I had hoped for. Turning a negative into a positive, I delved into the world of Bridal designers and quite soon I realised how relatively unknown and inaccessible so many designers were to the Australian bride. Partnering with so many incredible designers I began to reimagine what the bridal experience should look like and crafted The Ivory Room to ensure that shopping for your wedding dress not just being a purchase, but a once in a lifetime experience."

You worked with the incredible ‘The Make Haus’ team on the redesign of the boutique - tell us about the process and artistry behind what we see today.

"Dani’s brain and creativity knows no limits and I would love to live in it for a day! ‘The Make Haus’ team really listened to the vision I had and pushed me out of my comfort zone to consider new and amazing ideas and finishes to ensure the boutique was positioned ahead of trends and not following them. I love that the team asked for not only a mood board but also chatted to me about the ‘feeling’ I wanted for the space and used that to drive the redesign. The concept of The Ivory Room was to make shopping for your wedding dress a luxury experience and that experience starts when you float through the front doors of our space – it feels so escapist like you’ve left the world behind and are in a bridal dream land. The ivory tones, layering of textures, dreamy curves and playful furniture create a lavish dreamy space designed for our brides to begin their bridal journey of pampering."

What are your top 3 design details of ‘The Ivory Room’?

"The curvy staircase in our showroom is one of my absolute favourite features - that was on my mood board from day 1 and is quite literally the stairway to heaven. The wavy walls in the showroom and the hallway is another detail I adore that there are no straight walls or sharp bends and its so soft and calming and makes me feel like I’m in a luxury spa. I also love our custom built recessed arch with boucle custom banquette seating – a favourite spot of mine to perch with a coffee and my laptop in the mornings."

The Farrah Coffee Table and Brigette Floor Lamp feature in your showroom, which is your personal favourite and why?

"I couldn’t chose between those 2 if I tried! I don’t think ‘The Make Haus’ and I made a decision on anything quite so quickly and wholeheartedly as those 2 pieces. They embody the feel of The Ivory Room with their stunning curves and the gorgeous unique shades in the marble and onyx."

If you could give one piece of advice for a showroom re-design and build, what would that be?

"Very cliché, but however long you think it’s going to take – add another month. We started our refit in the 2021 Sydney 4 month lockdown and were up against so many hurdles with supply delays, delivery delays and the strict isolation rules for close contacts but I am so incredibly lucky to not only have the wonderful ‘The Make Haus’ who pivoted constantly, but also the most incredible builder ‘Arch Building’ who their team absolutely went above and beyond for me and I could not be more in love with our dream space."

What’s next for The Ivory Room?
